📖 Key Information

Fairfield at 873m (2,864ft) gives its name to one of the great classic ridge walks of Lakeland — the Fairfield Horseshoe from Ambleside, a magnificent circuit taking in Hart Crag, Dove Crag, High Pike and Nab Scar. Wainwright described Fairfield itself as a broad, stony plateau summit with its greatest views to the north-west, where the ridge drops dramatically to Grisedale Tarn and beyond. The summit cairn gives a panorama spanning the full length of the Eastern Fells, with Windermere glinting to the south on clear days. The direct descent to Grisedale Tarn and Patterdale is a superb alternative to the horseshoe.
