📖 Key Information

Dow Crag at 778m (2,552ft) is one of the great rock climbing crags of the Lake District, its eastern face dropping in a series of buttresses and gullies to the dark waters of Goat's Water below. Wainwright described it vividly, capturing the dramatic contrast between the crag's fierce eastern face and its gentler western slopes. The walker's route from Coniston via Goat's Water is excellent, with the climbing crags providing tremendous atmosphere throughout. The summit gives splendid views over the Duddon valley to the Scafells. Combined naturally with the Old Man via the ridge connecting them for a fine half-day circuit from Coniston village.
