How to cite and embed hikes.guide

The credit, ready to paste

This is the whole ask. Two formats; the plain one is enough.

For a specific report, the report page carries its own citation line with the data year, under “Grab the citation”.

The licence, in one sentence

Our open datasets and the reports that carry a citation line are free to reuse under CC BY 4.0: use them, quote them, build on them, and credit hikes.guide with a link. The rest of the site is covered by our terms. Where a page is built on Crown data (the Met Office climate series, for example) that source is under the Open Government Licence and named on the data sources page; please honour it too. The Lake District National Park Authority car park files are the Authority’s data and our aggregation of it under the Open Government Licence v3.0, and carry the Authority’s own credit line, which goes with them word for word. The datasets themselves are on the open data page.

Four things worth linking to, in forty words

If you keep a links page, a walks-from-here page or a car-free days-out page, these are the four we would ask for. Edit them freely.

Chart embeds

13 charts, grouped by the report they come from. Open one and it shows you the chart at your own column width, which is what your readers would get; each is a self-contained page you drop in with an iframe. They carry their own credit line and fit the width of your column (the height is fixed at 420 pixels).

What an embed loads: nothing but the chart. No script, no cookie, no tracking pixel on your page. We ask for the credit link the chart already carries, and nothing else.

All we ask is a credit link

A credit link. That is all. No reciprocal link, no wording you did not choose, no badge. If something you cite changes, the changelog says what and when, and the contact page reaches a person who will answer.
