Terms, Conditions & Cookie Policy

Last updated: 16 June 2026

Please read these terms carefully before using this website. By accessing or using hikes.guide ("the Website"), you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, please stop using the Website.

1. About the Website

Lake District Fell Bagger is a free, non-commercial information service. It helps walkers in the English Lake District identify Birkett summits that can be combined with Wainwright and Outlying Fell routes. The Website provides maps, parking suggestions, public transport information, and weather forecasts drawn from third-party sources.

2. Acceptance of Terms

These terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and the operator of hikes.guide, governed by the laws of England and Wales. Your continued use of the Website constitutes ongoing acceptance of any updates to these terms. The date of the most recent revision is shown above.

3. Permitted Use

You may use the Website for personal, non-commercial purposes only. You must not:

4. Information Accuracy & Hiking Safety

The Website is provided for general information and planning purposes only. While reasonable care is taken to keep information up to date, no warranty is given as to the accuracy, completeness, or fitness for purpose of any content, including:

Hillwalking is an inherently hazardous activity. You are solely responsible for assessing conditions, carrying appropriate equipment, and making safe decisions in the field. Always verify bus times independently via Stagecoach or Traveline before travel. Weather forecasts are provided as a guide only and conditions in mountainous terrain can change rapidly.

5. Third-Party Data & Intellectual Property

The Website uses data and services from the following third parties; their respective licences and terms apply:

All original content on the Website (text, design, code) is the intellectual property of the Website operator. Nothing on the Website grants you any licence to use that content beyond the permitted use described in section 3.

6. External Links

The Website contains links to external websites for convenience. These links do not constitute an endorsement of those sites or their content. The Website operator has no control over, and accepts no responsibility for, the content, privacy practices, or availability of any external site.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under English law.

8. Privacy

The Website does not require you to create an account or submit personal information to use it. The operator does not sell or share personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. Any data collected by the hosting infrastructure (such as server access logs) is held in accordance with applicable UK data protection law, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

9. Cookie Policy

No cookies — first-party or third-party — are set by hikes.guide. The Website does not use analytics trackers, advertising networks, social media embeds, or any other technology that places persistent identifiers on your device.

The only network requests made by your browser when using this Website are to retrieve map tiles (OpenStreetMap / OpenTopoMap) and weather data (Open-Meteo). These services may log your IP address in their own server logs in accordance with their respective privacy policies, but they do not set cookies through this Website.

Because no cookies are used, no cookie consent banner is required under the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).

Saving your progress. If you use the "tick fells you've climbed" feature, your list of bagged fells is saved only in your own browser's local storage (a localStorage entry on your device). This data never leaves your device and is never sent to, or seen by, hikes.guide or any third party — there is no account and no server copy. It is purely functional storage that you actively request by ticking fells, so it does not require a consent banner under PECR. You can remove it at any time by clearing your browser's site data, and you can back it up using the Export button. Clearing your browser data (or your browser automatically evicting local storage) will erase your progress, so use Export if you want to keep it.

10. Changes to These Terms

The Website operator reserves the right to update these terms at any time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly. Continued use of the Website after any change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising under or in connection with these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

12. Contact

If you have any questions about these terms or the Website, please use the contact information available on the main page.
