📖 Key Information

Allen Crags at 785m (2,575ft) is one of Lakeland's most overlooked summits, sitting quietly above Esk Hause between the busy paths to Glaramara and Great End. Wainwright praised its excellent position and the surprisingly fine views it offers — particularly south-east over Langstrath and east to the Helvellyn range. The summit is a small, rocky top with a modest cairn, easily reached from Esk Hause in minutes. Most walkers combine it with Glaramara as part of the classic Borrowdale ridge walk, descending via Grains Gill to Seathwaite. A genuinely worthwhile diversion that adds little effort but rewards with distinct views.

🎯 Bonus Birketts within 3 km

These Birkett tops are not Wainwright summits — detour to them on this walk and they are pure profit. Distances are straight-line; allow extra for terrain.
