📖 Key Information

Blencathra at 868m (2,848ft) was, by many accounts, Wainwright's personal favourite — he described it as 'a mountain that has everything a mountain should have.' Its dramatic southern face presents a series of sweeping ridges and dark corries that compose into one of the great mountain spectacles of Lakeland, visible from the A66 below. The traverse of Sharp Edge from Scales Tarn is one of the finest scrambles in the district — narrower and more exposed than Striding Edge. Hall's Fell Ridge is the finest walking approach to any Lakeland summit. The views from the summit across to Skiddaw and south to the main Lakeland groups are outstanding.

🎯 Bonus Birketts within 3 km

These Birkett tops are not Wainwright summits — detour to them on this walk and they are pure profit. Distances are straight-line; allow extra for terrain.
