The nearest car park we hold is Darling Fell, west (layby), about 2.2 km from the summit in a straight line. The next is Darling Fell (layby), 2.3 km out. We only look within 2.5 km, measured straight-line: over longer distances a road may cross a pass and the drive bears no relation to the line.
The shortest way up we hold is Around Loweswater to Fellbarrow and Low Fell — 10.8 km, 417 m of ascent, about 2.9 hours. On our scale its hardest axis is steepness — Severe.

The 77 stops at Lanthwaite Green Farm (opp). From there it is 3.2 km and 118 m of ascent to the start of Around Loweswater — a walk in before the walk. Seasonal: the 77 does not run all year. 1 November 2026 is its last day, and it is not daily before then — a bus on 31 of the 56 days from 7 September. We don’t know when it returns. Confirmed with the operator, 29 August 2026. The last bus is 18:03 towards Keswick (77), every day. Checked against the operator’s timetable, 12 September 2026. Times here are a guide, not a promise — leave yourself more than the minute.

Its longest wait of the modelled year falls on 1 December, when the sun is up for 35 minutes before it clears this skyline — first light 08:48 against an almanac sunrise of 08:13. You are standing in shadow while the valley below is already lit. The sun comes up to the south-east from here (135.8°), and the skyline on that bearing stands at 3.49°.

Yes — these are the low, green, farmed fells north of Loweswater, and they are about as gentle as Lakeland gets. Our round to Fellbarrow and Low Fell is 10.8 km with 417 m of ascent, a comfortable half day, and there is no crag, no scramble and no exposure on it.
Two honest cautions. We grade the steepness of that round severe — the pull out of the valley is sharper than the height suggests, and the grass is slick when wet. And the summits are rounded, grassy and near-identical, with more than one candidate top, so it is a compass day if the cloud is down. The bigger Loweswater circuit is 19.1 km and 1019 m.
