Hatteringill Head at 385m (1,263ft) is a Birkett top at the northern end of the Fellbarrow ridge, 0.5 km north of Fellbarrow, with the River Cocker 1.8 km to the east-north-east and the hamlet of Mosser 1.7 km to the west.

Buses
The 77 stops at Lanthwaite Green Farm (opposite). From there it is 4.8 km and 222 m of ascent to the start of Birketts North of Loweswater — a route we rate Hard overall (hardest: steepness, terrain and navigation) — a walk in before the walk. And the same back: about 20.2 km in all, with the walk. Seasonal: the 77 does not run all year. 1 November 2026 is its last day. It returns on 22 March 2027. Confirmed with the operator: its last day on 29 August 2026, its return on 16 October 2026. As timetabled from 27 October to 1 November. Towards Keswick (77): Tuesday to Sunday 18:03. Hazards on Hatteringill Head - Whin Fell
Notes from a planned route, not walked: Birketts North of Loweswater
- OpenStreetMap maps the edge of Raven Crag within about 6 m of the line for about 100 m north of Low Fell’s top, near 3.9 km.
- This line crosses Crabtree Beck (about 2.85 km) and Mosser Beck (about 8.25 km) where OpenStreetMap marks fords, and Whittern Gill (about 8.85 km); none has been checked on the ground. River crossings in spate: Crossing water in spate.
If you need to get off (the leg from Fellbarrow - Mosser Fell): The map shows no way off between Fellbarrow and Hatteringill Head shorter than back to the path at about 5.4 km, which leads about 1.7 km east-south-east down to the lane at Thackthwaite: never more than about 2.8 km; not walked for this guide.
