702 mWainwright — Northern Fells✓ summit is also a Birkett+5 bonus Birketts within 3 km
📖 Key Information
Bowscale Fell at 702m (2,303ft) is a broad summit above Mungrisdale, its eastern face concealing one of Lakeland's most atmospheric tarns — Bowscale Tarn, set in a dark corrie below the fell's north-east face. Wainwright described the tarn as one of the finest in the Northern Fells, a dark, deep lake with an air of seclusion and mystery. The ascent from Mungrisdale via the tarn path is an excellent short outing. The views from the summit across to Blencathra and east to the Pennines are very fine.

🎯 Bonus Birketts within 3 km
These Birkett tops are not Wainwright summits — detour to them on this walk and they are pure profit. Distances are straight-line; allow extra for terrain.
