Mosedale End Farm B&B (opens in new tab) guest house
about 1.4 km from the start, in a straight line
This is the one place in the radius whose own page names the fells this route climbs: "Walk our favourite Northern Fells from the Farmgate including Carrock, High Pike, Knott, Calva and the Back O Skiddaw" - Carrock Fell and Knott are the route, and the farm is 1.39 km from the recorded start. Breakfast comes as a hamper to the room so a walker can leave at first light without waiting on a dining room, every room has a mini kitchen and fridge, picnics are sold, and there is an EV charger. The hard limits a family must know BEFORE booking: no dogs at all; children only in the Grainery Suite and only two of them; there is no bus ("We have NO bus service."), so a car-free family cannot use this at all; and check-in is not until 4 pm.
Worth knowing: “Sorry we do not take DOGS or offer help the farmer or work experience days”
The farm wires its own wildlife into the bedrooms: guests can borrow a tablet and watch live cameras trained on the farm's badger sett, its bird nest boxes, the lambing shed in March and April, and the cows in their winter housing. JoAnne Fell also hands out a bag of corn for the hens and runs sheepdog demonstrations.
- Family rooms “THE GRAINERY SUITE A spacious en-suite bedroom with a king-size bed. Small kitchen area for basic food prep, with kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge, sink, and cupboard storage. - Packed lunch “Picnics available.”
- Parking “Mosedale End Farm is a traditional Lake District white farm house and is set back off the road, behind its own private yard where you may park your car.”
