📖 Key Information

St Sunday Crag at 841m (2,759ft) is the great isolated pyramid above Patterdale, separated from the Helvellyn ridge by the deep trench of Grisedale. Wainwright described it as one of the finest viewpoints in the Eastern Fells, its summit giving an unequalled prospect of the Helvellyn range, Ullswater and the Fairfield horseshoe. The classic ridge approach from Patterdale via Birks is excellent walking throughout. The views back to Helvellyn across Grisedale, and north along Ullswater, are among the most striking in Lakeland. A deservedly popular summit that rewards its independence from the main ridge.

🎯 Bonus Birketts within 3 km

These Birkett tops are not Wainwright summits — detour to them on this walk and they are pure profit. Distances are straight-line; allow extra for terrain.
