Wythburn Fell at 508m (1,667ft) is a Birkett top on the broad moorland above the southern end of Thirlmere in the Central Fells, its grassy summit giving views across the reservoir and towards the Helvellyn range.

The 555 stops at Thirlmere, at Armboth turn. From there it is 1.8 km and 54 m of ascent to the start of Birketts West of Thirlmere — a route we rate Severe overall (hardest: distance) — a walk in before the walk. Hazards on Wythburn Fell
Notes from a planned route, not walked: Birketts West of Thirlmere
If you need to get off (the leg from the start): Turn 180 degrees and drop straight back down the grassy slope to the forest boundary. The logging tracks within the tree line provide a sheltered route back to the valley road.
