Yoadcastle at a glance

Yoadcastle

Yoadcastle (494 m / 1,621 ft) is the rocky high point of Wainwright's Devoke Water round, one of the finest walks in The Outlying Fells of Lakeland. Its twin, Woodend Height, sits just alongside, and the pair are pressed up against Wainwright's original south-western boundary above Eskdale. It is the rockiest and best-viewed summit of the Birker Moor group, looking over Devoke Water — the largest tarn in the Lake District — to the Scafells and the sea. Access is a little awkward from the west; most walkers come in from the Ulpha–Eskdale fell road. A Wainwright Outlying Fell and a Birkett, on quiet ground few visitors reach.
