Seat How (Birker Moor) at a glance

Seat How (Birker Moor)

Seat How (311 m / 1,020 ft) is a rocky little rise on Birker Moor beside Devoke Water, one of the string of low tops on Wainwright's Devoke Water circuit above Eskdale. It is quickly reached from the fell road and pairs naturally with Rough Crag close by. The name combines seat (Old Norse sætr, a hill shieling) and how (Old Norse haugr, a rounded mound). A Wainwright Outlying Fell and a Birkett, its modest summit gives an outsized view over the tarn to the Scafells — a lot of scenery for a short climb.

The short answers

Is Seat How (Birker Moor) a Wainwright?

Seat How (Birker Moor) is one of Wainwright's Outlying Fells, not one of the 214 in the Pictorial Guides. It is also on the Birkett list and the Synge list.

Where do you park for Seat How (Birker Moor)?

The nearest car park we hold is Devoke Water turning, Birker Fell road (verge), about 0.8 km from the summit in a straight line. The next is Rough Crag Birker Moor (verge, south), 0.9 km out. We only look within 2.5 km, measured straight-line: over longer distances a road may cross a pass and the drive bears no relation to the line.
