Carron Crag
Carron Crag at 314m (1,030ft) is a Birkett top in the Grizedale Forest above the Furness Fells, its summit giving views across Esthwaite Water and south to Morecambe Bay. Part of the forest fell country between Windermere and Coniston Water.

The 505 stops at Hawkshead, at Tourist Information Centre. From there it is 4.8 km and 222 m of ascent to the start of Carron Crag from Grizedale — a route we rate Hard overall (hardest: navigation) — a walk in before the walk. And the same back: about 20.6 km in all, with the walk. As timetabled from 27 October to 1 November. Towards Coniston (505): Tuesday to Sunday 19:55. Towards Kendal (505): Tuesday to Sunday 20:43. Water & shelter on the way up
On the Carron Crag from Grizedale route:
Treat water from the fell before you drink it. A mapped point is not proof the water is drinkable, so carry your own or use a supply you know is safe. Never drink untreated from a beck, stream or tarn — even clear-looking hill water can carry giardia or cryptosporidium from livestock upstream and leave you seriously ill. Use a treatment method suited to what might be in the water, and follow the device’s own instructions. Boiling and ordinary filters do not make water with dissolved metals or chemicals safe: where that is possible, choose another source.
