Birkett Fell at 725m (2,379ft) is a broad, heathery summit on the high moorland east of Ullswater, giving wide views across the Pennines and over the pastoral Eamont valley. A Birkett top in the quiet country between the main Lakeland fells and the limestone uplands to the east. The fell is rarely visited and gives a real sense of solitude.

Catch it from: Penrith · Windermere (summer only)
The key route from Penrith for the Eastern and Far Eastern fells: Helvellyn from Glenridding, Place Fell, the Hartsop fells. The summer Kirkstone extension drops you at the pass for Red Screes and Caudale Moor.
