About the walk

Key information

Watch Hill (Setmurthy Common)

Watch Hill (Setmurthy Common) is the higher, eastern top of the Watch Hill ridge at 255m (837ft), on the north-western edge of the Lake District above Cockermouth. Wainwright treats it as one of two tops in The Outlying Fells of Lakeland (the other being Watch Hill itself, to the west). Set well apart from the main Northern Fells, it earns Marilyn status and makes a fine, far-reaching viewpoint over the Solway Firth, the coastal plain and back to Skiddaw. Gentle cropped sheep pasture, with a short approach from Cockermouth or Setmurthy.
