Windermere Camping and Caravanning Club Site (opens in new tab) campsite
about 2.0 km from the start, in a straight line
By a distance the best-evidenced base in this cluster and the nearest one that answers anything: a drying room, a laundry, a children's play area, a parent and baby room, a pub on site and backpacker pitches for walkers arriving on foot, 2.02 km from the Brunt Knott start with a footpath into Staveley. Two things a family must know before booking, both from the site's own travel block: it SHUTS FOR THE WINTER - 'Open: 14/03/26 - 14/01/27' - so it is unusable for a February half-term; and the entrance gates are 'locked between 11pm and 7am' with 'no staff on duty after 8pm', which matters to anyone finishing a fell late.
The campsite has its own pub, the Whistling Pig, with a courtyard beer garden, and you can reach Staveley's shops, restaurants and railway station on foot across the fields rather than by road. It also keeps a dedicated backpacker facility for campers arriving without a vehicle.
