Brunt Knott
Brunt Knott at 427m (1,401ft) is a heathery fell summit above Kentmere and the Longsleddale valley, giving pleasant views of the Kent valley and the Far Eastern Fells above. Wainwright included it in his Outlying Fells guide as part of the South Lakeland group.

Buses
The 6 and 555 stop at Staveley, outside Abbey Square, a 190 m walk from the start of Brunt Knott from Staveley — a route we rate Hard overall (hardest: steepness). As timetabled from 27 October to 1 November. Towards Kendal (555): Tuesday to Saturday 23:55; Sunday 20:53. Towards Kendal (6): Tuesday to Saturday 16:17; Sunday 22:30. Checked against the operator’s timetable, 24 September 2026. Times here are a guide, not a promise — leave yourself more than the minute.
By train: Staveley station is 460 m on foot from the start of Brunt Knott from Staveley. First train in 06:30, last train out 22:52, Monday to Friday, checked 12 September, valid to the 12 December timetable change; Saturday and Sunday. A weekday walk fits: after the walk to the start and back and a 30-minute margin there are 15 h 40 between those trains, against this route’s steady 3 h 14.
At the station: Staveley station has no step-free access to any platform, and there are no toilets. The rest of what meets that train. Station facilities: NationalRail (Train Information Services Ltd).

If you need to get off (the leg from the start): The map shows the line on lanes to about 2.2 km, apart from a path between about 1.1 and 1.8 km; above the lane, past Brunt Knott Farm to the top, no mapped path reaches a road sooner than going back, so the way off is back the way you came, never more than about 1.2 km to the lane; not walked for this guide.
