Notes from a planned route, not walked: A quiet Birkett
- The Longlands and Lowthwaite section is faint-trod heather and grass — about a third of the route follows drawn lines where no clear track exists. Bearings country in poor visibility.
If you need to get off (the leg from the start): Retreat: The map shows the line on the road from Uldale for its first 3.1 km; only the last 0.3 km to Green How is off it, so the way off is back down to that road; not walked for this guide.
