Muncaster Fell at 231m (758ft) is a long, heathery ridge above the Esk estuary near Ravenglass, giving one of the finest views of the lower Esk valley and the Scafell group above. Wainwright described it in his Outlying Fells guide as one of the most rewarding low-level walks in the district — the views of the Scafells from this coastal viewpoint are spectacular on a clear day. The traverse from Muncaster Castle to Eskdale is a classic lower-level walk.
