Scout Scar at 235m (771ft) is the dramatic limestone escarpment above Kendal, its long, airy ridge giving outstanding views of the Lakeland fells, the Pennines and Morecambe Bay. Wainwright included it in his Outlying Fells guide, praising the remarkable panorama — one of the finest ridge-edge views in the north of England. The traverse from Kendal along the scarp edge is a classic South Lakeland walk accessible from the town.
