Kendal Mountain Festival is the UK's (and arguably the world's) leading celebration of mountain and adventure culture: a packed long weekend of adventure films, speaker sessions, book launches, athletes and exhibitions across venues around Kendal, on the south-eastern edge of the Lake District. It draws the biggest names in climbing, fell-running, paddling and exploration.
Good to know: it's a town-and-venues festival rather than a single site, so it's largely indoor — ideal for November. Sessions are ticketed and the popular ones sell out early, so book ahead. Plenty suits older children and teens, though it's pitched mainly at adults.
Getting there: Kendal is the easiest Lakes-area festival to reach by train (Oxenholme, on the West Coast Main Line, with a branch into Kendal) and sits right by the M6 (Junction 36). It pairs naturally with a few days in the southern Lakes around Windermere and Ambleside.
