The walks of the Lake District
By Lee McCoy . Updated 31 August 2026.
Every line here is a walk somebody actually did. They are not suggested ways
between two summits — each one is drawn from the GPX track recorded on the day, thinned
just enough to draw, and coloured by how long it is.

The 185 routes by length
Band Walks Roughly
Easy 41 under about 8 km Moderate 73 a half-day on the fell Hard 49 a long day, or a big round Severe 22 the longest we hold
How it is drawn
Every line is a recorded track. They come from the same GPX files the
route pages publish, thinned to about 84 points each so the whole library can be drawn at
once — 50 MB of track into roughly 300 KB.
The colour is our own length rating , the same Easy / Moderate / Hard /
Severe you see on a route page, not a scale invented for this map.
The boundary and lakes are OpenStreetMap outlines under the Open
Database Licence, the same shapes the rest of our maps use.
What we don’t claim
This is not a navigation map and not a rights-of-way map. A line here
means one walk went that way once; it is not a claim that a path exists, is open, or that you
may use it. Take OS Explorer OL4–OL7 onto the hill.
It is not every walk in the Lake District — it is every walk
we hold . Blank ground means we have not recorded one there, nothing more.
Length is not difficulty. A short route can be the harder day; the route
pages carry steepness, terrain, navigation and exposure separately.
The rest of our maps are on the maps page — which fells a bus
reaches, all 544 tops by height, the ground in relief, and where the right to roam applies.
